I was born in Israel in 1948, the year the state was founded. I grew up in a small town in the Galilee, and my childhood was idyllic. I played with my friends in the fields and forests, and I learned about the history of my country and the struggles of my people.

But when I was 16 years old, the Six-Day War broke out. I watched in horror as Israeli soldiers fought against Egyptian, Jordanian, and Syrian forces. I saw the news reports of the fighting, and I heard the stories of the dead and wounded.

The war changed me. I realized that the world was not as simple as I had thought. I saw that there was no easy solution to the conflict between Israelis and Palestinians. And I knew that I had to do something to help bring about peace.

After the war, I joined a group of young Israelis who were working for peace. We organized protests, we met with Palestinian leaders, and we tried to build bridges between the two communities.

Our work was difficult and dangerous. We were often threatened and harassed by both Israelis and Palestinians. But we never gave up hope. We believed that peace was possible, and we were determined to do everything we could to achieve it.

In 1993, the Oslo Accords were signed between Israel and the Palestine Liberation Organization. The accords were a major breakthrough, and they gave us hope that a lasting peace was finally possible.

But the Oslo Accords did not bring peace. Instead, they were followed by a wave of violence and terror. Suicide bombings became commonplace, and Israeli forces responded with military strikes.

The violence shattered our hopes for peace. But we did not give up. We continued to work for peace, even though it seemed more difficult than ever.

In 2005, the Israeli government withdrew from the Gaza Strip. The withdrawal was a unilateral move, and it was not part of any peace agreement. But it was a significant step, and it gave us hope that a two-state solution to the conflict was still possible.

Today, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict continues. There is still no easy solution, and there is still no peace. But we must never give up hope. We must continue to work for peace, even when it seems impossible.

This memoir is my story of the search for peace in Israel. It is a story of hope and heartbreak, of struggle and perseverance. It is a story that I hope will inspire others to work for peace in their own communities.
